1. Overview of the Department Submodule
The Department Submodule enables organizations to organize and manage their departments effectively. It provides tools to create, view, edit, delete, and visualize departments in both table and hierarchy views. The submodule also supports exporting data and filtering for quick access.
2. Accessing the Department Submodule
Navigate to the HR module in the left-hand menu.
Click on Department to open the Department Dashboard.
3. Features of the Department Submodule
Department Listing Page
The Department Listing Page shows a detailed overview of all departments, including:
Name: The department name (e.g., Information Technology, C-Suite).
Parent Department: Displays the parent department for hierarchical structuring.
Actions: Options to view, edit, or delete departments.
b. Add Department
To create a new department:
Click the "Add Department" button.
Fill in the following fields:
Name: Enter the department name (e.g., Human Resources).
Parent: Optionally, select a parent department to establish a hierarchical relationship.
Click "Save" to add the department.
c. Export
Use the "Export" button to download the list of departments as a file for reporting or documentation purposes.
d. Filter and Search
Search Bar: Locate specific departments by entering their name in the search field.
Filter: Narrow down the department list by applying specific criteria using the filter menu.
e. Table View
The Table View provides a structured, sortable table showing:
Name
Parent Department
Actions (View, Edit, Delete)
f. Hierarchy View
The Hierarchy View visualizes department relationships in a tree structure for easier understanding of organizational hierarchies.
Features:
Drag & Drop: Restructure departments by dragging and dropping nodes to rearrange the hierarchy.
Hierarchy Visualization: Displays departments as a flowchart with parent-child relationships.
g. Action Items
From the Actions dropdown, you can:
View: View details of the department.
Edit: Update the name or parent department.
Delete: Remove the department (requires confirmation to prevent accidental deletion).
4. Best Practices and Tips
Use Hierarchy View to ensure department relationships are well-defined.
Regularly update departments to reflect changes in organizational structure.
Use the Parent Department field to maintain a logical hierarchy.
Export the department list regularly for documentation and reporting purposes.
